Does a FREE genealogy site exists online?
I did a search for “free genealogy” research, but every site I went to gives me a pay option, and many of them are linked to Ancestry.com, which you have to pay for. Does anyone know a FREE site to go to for family research? Thanks in advance for answering.
There are many free websites and I will not repeat what Ted Pack has already written which gives you a good list and there are many more…..however if you are expecting one website which you can get ll your ancestors from you will be disappointed you need to target the information and do lots of cross referencing……..and you start at home and in the homes of your living relations and the records you already have as these are primary records and cost you nothing http://familytimeline.webs.com/recordsinyourownhome.htm and should get you back 3-5 generations as well as give you lots of clues to find other information as well as hear all the family stories…then the links page may help you find more.
I have never paid any subscription or used uncited information to build my tree and have a very healthy cited tree back 600 years on two lines and 500 years on many others. A couple of weeks ago did some online research only to trace a line, within 4 hours I had cited records/indexes back 200 years and another couple of hours using free online cited records/indexes back another 100 years, so it can be done…..good luck with you research
